Central Otago/Burgundy Viticultural Exchange Programme
These two parts of the world are growing close, as a result of an exchange programme which sees young winemakers traveling to see what’s happening in their industry on the other side of the world.
Kurt Lindsay, recently returned from Burgundy, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity and has broadened my knowledge of French wine making. Living with a traditional French family was indeed a highlight of the trip, giving me insight into French customs involved in the wine industry.”
“This is of enormous benefit to the wine growing industry in Central Otago”, said Martin Anderson from the Central Otago Winegrowers Association. “It is essential for us to ensure that there is a core of well trained and traveled winemakers who can utilize the best that the old world and the new world have to offer. In particular, the use of organic and bio-dynamic techniques in Burgundy is likely to be of marked use to us here in Central Otago as we contemplate a regional wide move towards organic viticulture.”
