Funding for School Groups

Applications for grants by New Zealand school groups planning exchange visits with France should reach the New Zealand Board Secretary by 31 March each year. Details are on the application form.

Applications from French groups should be sent to the French Board of the New Zealand/France Friendship Fund. Details are on the application form on the French site.

Funding is given only to New Zealand schools involved in exchanges with metropolitan France and the French Pacific, with the exception of New Caledonia.

The New Zealand Board will normally only approve grants for approved school exchanges to a maximum of NZ$500 per student. Therefore schools must show that they are able to meet most of the costs of their side of the exchange. The Board will consider no more than three consecutive applications from the same school.

While most applications are expected to come from French classes, other groups of secondary school students with specific projects in mind will be considered for funding, as long as they are travelling as an official group and accompanied by a teacher.

A French school should ideally be closely involved in arrangements, with the intention that the French group would later be hosted in New Zealand (or vice versa).

To be successful, applications should show a strong people to people content in the planned itinerary, outlining shared activities, homestays etc with the host school(s).
