The New Zealand-France Friendship Fund was established under an Agreement signed by the Prime Ministers of France and New Zealand on 29 April 1991. The Fund is administered by a Joint French-New Zealand Board of six members who serve in an honorary capacity. The Joint Board meets annually to consider applications for funding.

Favourable consideration is given to projects in New Zealand, France and the French Pacific Territories which meet the philosophy of the Fund - namely, the promotion of friendship between the two peoples, with emphasis on young people.

Since the Fund's inception, it has supported many educational, cultural and sporting exchanges which have led to ongoing links, understanding and friendship between the citizens of the two countries.
The Friendship Fund has become a tangible expression of the constructive and vibrant relationship between France and New Zealand.
